Art Of Pain and Future Shows Update!

So! I have mentioned I have a bunch of upcoming shows. And I am really excited about all of them. The 2 major ones I have coming up are “Art Of Pain” and Bear and Bird’s Square 2 Show.

For Art of Pain I wanted to do 2 portraits. One was one I did back in 2004, it was an art “therapy” piece from a sketch I did back in high school. It was a screaming woman pulled from a magazine and I liked the expression so much I substituted her face for mine.

It took me awhile but I have decided that I will also try to sell it. So hopefully that happens. The other portrait (that I am currently working on) is more of a light-hearted piece. When I was talking to Valyn Calhoun (artist/curator) about the pieces I mentioned doing a portrait of myself regarding a bad habit I have when I am painting. See I put my brushes in my mouth as I paint, and if you SAW my brushes then you would understand how NOT A GOOD THING THAT IS. So For awhile I thought it might be fun to do a portrait with my mouth stuffed with brushes. Uncomfortable and awkward. Almost PAINFUL to look at. Happily he liked the idea and I’ve been working on the piece ever since. It will be awkward and horrible to look at (at least that is what I am going for), and I am incredibly excited!

The other show as I mentioned before is one of Bear and Bird Gallery’s locals only open call shows. Let me say that I LOVE these shows! I love seeing what all the local artists have done and I am always immensely impressed (and jealous) of the high caliber of artists in the area! I mentioned in another post that I was debating doing a new piece or submitting an already completed piece. I decided to submit a piece that was already completed but I was crazy in love with.

I’ve said a lot about this piece and it has been in a number of different shows, I am happy it will be in the Square 2 show and I hope it finds a happy home!

That’s it for these 2 shows, I know I will be talking about the other ones the closer they come and I can’t wait to see what everyone else has done!
